Mr. Conway was born and raised in Escondido and he graduated from Orange Glen High in 1994. He holds a BA in history from Biola University. Matt was called by God to serve in in full-time ministry and prepared for this calling by attending seminary. He graduated from Talbot School of Theology with an MA in Theology. Matt has served as a youth pastor and missionary. He has taught middle school and high school for seven years, including working with AVID. He served the ECS community from 2009-2013 teaching middle school Bible, geography, and U.S. history. Mr. Conway's heart's desire is to equip students with the skills to defend their faith in Christ in a humble and gentle manner while living in a world that is increasingly hostile to Christ. Matt has been married to his amazing wife Jenni for 15 years and has four kids, all of whom attend ECS. He enjoys disc golf, cooking, ocean kayaking, baseball, Mexican food and all things chocolate/peanut butter.
Mr. Ruben Rodriguez
High School Director
Mr. Rodriguez is a San Diego native, growing up in National City and moving to Escondido when he was in 4th grade. A graduate of San Pasqual High School, Mr. Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree from Cal State San Marcos. Before coming to ECS, he taught high schoolers at Maranatha Christian School for 4 years. Mr. Rodriguez has been married to Kim, who works in our preschool, for 13 years and they have 3 children who all attend ECS. Mr. Rodriguez enjoys playing music in church, surfing, riding his Harley and hanging out with his family.
Mrs. Kate Canady
Mrs. Canady comes to us from Indiana, where she was certified as a school counselor. She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors in Child Development and Family Studies and a Masters in School Counseling. Kate will be working with our high school students weekly assisting students though career guidance exploration tools, college admissions counseling, and working one-on-one through personal issues. She is married to Nathaniel and has two young sons who attend ECS. Mrs. Canady enjoys spending time with family, hiking, craft projects, and baking. Her favorite Bible passages are Psalm 27:14 and Proverbs 3:5-6.
H S Bible Classes
Ms. Carney graduated from LIFE Pacific College with a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies and a minor in Education. She was a student teacher in the Valley Center and Temecula Valley school districts and received her multiple subject K-8 CA state credential from CSUSM. Her favorite Bible verse is Esther 4:14 and she enjoys helping in the youth group at the church. As Mrs. Celeste Carney's middle daughter, it is her joy to follow in her mother's footsteps and fulfill her own lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Bible verse is Esther 4:14 and when she is not at home, school, or church, you will find her at the beach. She enjoys leading the Young Adult ministry and working in the youth group at the church. As Mrs. Celeste Carney's middle daughter, it is her joy to follow in her mother's footsteps and fulfill her own lifelong dream of becoming a teacher.
Mrs. Gushwa was born and raised in Baja California, Mexico where she graduated from college and became a second-grade teacher before meeting her husband Nate and emigrating to the United States. Nate is the Spanish Pastor at The Center church and Denisse partners with him in missions. The Gushwas have two young boys in our preschool and infant program. Mrs. Gushwa is excited to return to teaching after taking time off as a full-time mommy.
Science Workshop Mentor
Shailesh Kadakia, affectionately known as Mr. Sky is our high school science workshop mentor. He assists students in their online courses and facilitates wet labs for each science class as needed. Mr. Sky is originally from India and came to Christ 8 years ago after being raised Hindu. He is a published physics author and has tutored in math since 2013. Prior to that, he was an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and a software engineer. He has authored four papers in technical journals & magazines and has been awarded five patents in computer circuits. Mr. Sky immigrated to the US in 1979 and has a Master of Science from the University of Texas
