Junior Kindergarten is a class for children who have either already been in a Pre-K class or are ineligible for full Kindergarten because they turn five after September 1, 2016.
This well-established program has been operating at our school since 1998.
While most children do well to prepare for the ECS Kindergarten program after a year in our Pre-K classes, there is a select group of children who are ready for a more challenging curriculum and different structure but are not yet old enough for “big school” Kindergarten. These children need a transitional class providing the gift of time. This year allows them to continue growing at their own developmental pace in a class that is designed to meet their needs while preparing them for Kindergarten entry. Junior K is in between Pre-K and Kindergarten. Our staff can help determine if this class is right for your child.
In addition to class time, our Jr. K students have motor development classes 4 days a week, Lab Day on Thursdays, Chapel with the Kindergarten thru fifth grade, and visits to the ECS library on Fridays. Healthy morning snacks are provided daily at no extra cost.
Junior K is a morning class running from September to June. We strongly recommend the 5-day a week option to get the most out of the curriculum, but MWF or T Th schedules are possible depending on availability. Instruction begins at 8:30am. We can provide early morning care beginning at 6:30am at no additional charge. Full days are available for extended care on a regular or occasional basis (based on availability).
