Mrs. Jenni Conway is beginning her sixth year working at ECS leading our drama department, second year as the art teacher. She is so excited for the opportunity to develop the kids’ talent for "creating" as they have been made in the image if their Creator. Mrs. Conway attended Clearwater Christian College in Florida and graduated from a prestigious performing arts high school where she did intensive study in theater and art with an emphasis in set design. She worked at DisneyWorld as a performer and photographer, and has been painting murals for 15 years in 5 states. Jenni has traveled extensively, been a missionary, and is fluent in Spanish. She has four fun-loving children who have all attended ECS and she is married to Mr. Matt Conway, who is our Principal. Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:33.
Mrs. Harrington is very excited to be joining the ECS staff. She comes to us from Washington State, where she obtained a degree in Elementary and Special education from Western Washington University. She also holds a California state credential. Mrs. Harrington believes that education should be tailored to each individuals needs. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and cat Bono, exploring the great outdoors, reading a good book, eating delicious food, and cheering on the Seahawks. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 John 3:18.
Mr. Filipovich has been the ECS Music Director since 2004. Prior to that he taught private lessons here for 3 years. He has been a music teacher for 27 years. Mr. Filipovich has a Master's Degree in Music Pedagogy from the University of Novi Sad in the former Yugoslavia. He has been married for 23 years, and his wife is our Executive Director. He enjoys playing music with his three sons and visiting family in Europe. He loves teaching students to praise God through music. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 33:3.
Mrs. Kate Canady
Mrs. Canady came to us in 2013 from Indiana, where she was certified as a school counselor. She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors in Child Development and Family Studies and a Masters in School Counseling. She oversees our schoolwide assessments and facilitates referrals for academic assistance. Kate also works weekly with individual students who have been referred for one-on-one counseling services. Please email her to inquire about beginning counseling services with your child. She is married and has two young sons who attend ECS. Mrs. Canady enjoys spending time with family, hiking, craft projects, and baking. Her favorite Bible passage is Psalm 27:14.
Mrs. Patricia Haag
After retiring as principal, Mrs. Haag remains on staff assisting with our new teachers' professional development, student academic support, and as our international student coordinator.
Mr. Peter McKinlay
Jr. High Boys Athletic Director
Mr. McKinlay is an avid sports lover, having participated in almost all sports. He began playing soccer and progressed to a national competition held in San Diego. He switched to competitive tennis at an early age and was chosen one of the top 64 high school tennis players in California. He continued playing in national competitions in Atlanta, Houston, Boston and Dallas, and other cities. He was recruited nationally for tennis and graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in English and a minor in Business Administration. He is ACSI certified and was an ECS alum. He has 3 daughters that all attend ECS and is blessed to have the support of his lovely wife, Laura. Mr. McKinlay is focused on helping students to become strong Christian athletes.
Mrs. Angela Corbin
Mrs. Corbin attended San Diego State University and studied liberal studies. She has been very involved in sports all her life. From competitive swimming, dancing, and gymnastics, to training at the Olympic Training Center in high level springboard diving. She was the director of a gymnastics center until she had her first child. She has been married for 10 years and has been blessed with 2 children who attend ECS. She loves to be active whether that be competing in triathlons, fun runs, or teaching kids how to surf.
Mr. Whitehead is an alumnus of ECS and is currently working toward his teaching degree. He is a graduate of the Joshua Wilderness Program, a biblically based one-year service training intensive for college students. He has been employed here since 2015 as part of our summer daycamp and is currently a classroom aide in first grade and on the playground with all the students. Mr. Whitehead has extensive technology experience and is currently working on his Google Certification. He is excited to be working with our computer classes.
Mrs. Gushwa was born and raised in Baja California, Mexico where she graduated from college and became a second-grade teacher before meeting her husband Nate and emigrating to the United States. Nate is the Spanish Pastor at The Center church and Denisse partners with him in missions. The Gushwas have two young boys in our preschool and infant program. Mrs. Gushwa is excited to return to teaching after taking time off as a full-time mommy.
Mr. James Higgins
PE Teacher/Recess Mentor
Mr. Higgins comes to us from San Elijo Middle School. He is very happily married to his wife, Stephanie, and the proud father of two ECS Lions (Branford and Avery). Starting in high school, then through college and up to today, he has coached/participated in track, tennis, football and basketball. He has a bachelors degree in history. In life, as well as sports, he believes that ALL children have gifts that should be nurtured. In addition to PE, Mr. Higgins also enjoys facilitating structured activities for our elementary students during lunch recess. Some of his passions are cooking (yes, he thinks he can beat Bobby Flay), photography, being a staunch adoption advocate, and listening to jazz. His favorite Bible verse is Luke 6:31
