Ms. Carney graduated from LIFE Pacific College with a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies and a minor in Education. She was a student teacher in the Valley Center and Temecula Valley school districts and received her multiple subject K-8 CA state credential from CSUSM. Her favorite Bible verse is Esther 4:14 and she enjoys helping in the youth group at the church. As Mrs. Celeste Carney's middle daughter, it is her joy to follow in her mother's footsteps and fulfill her own lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Bible verse is Esther 4:14 and when she is not at home, school, or church, you will find her at the beach. She enjoys leading the Young Adult ministry and working in the youth group at the church. Mrs. DeLucia began at ECS in 1996. She holds a Master of Education from CSUSM. She enjoys teaching students about the beauty and complexity of God’s creation. In 2013 Mrs. DeLucia received the San Diego Middle School Teacher of the Year award from SDSEA (San Diego Science Educators Association). In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Mrs. DeLucia participated in a lesson study through Cal State San Marcos called iQUEST. Through the iQuest program Mrs. DeLucia, along with other middle science teachers, worked collaboratively to develop engaging student lessons that integrated the use of technology into the classroom curriculum. The lessons were disseminated through professional development workshops in various school districts such as Riverside, San Luis Obispo, and North and South County. In addition Mrs. DeLucia has presented integration of web tools in the science classroom at the ISTE (International Society of Technology in Education) conference in Denver and San Diego, CUE (Computer-Using Educators), and the California League of Middle Schools. In 2013-14, Mrs. DeLucia participated in another study, ACT, to develop science lessons that engage students in critical thinking activities to prepare them with the 21st century skills needed in the workplace.

Mr. McKinlay is a loving husband and father of 3 girls who all attend ECS. Peter attended ECS himself, graduating in 1988. After finishing at San Pasqual High School, he graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Business Administration. Peter also played tennis for the University of Oregon for a brief stint. He worked as a business manager for 7 years prior to a career as a regional field sales manager for another 5 years. Mr. McKinlay has been working at our school for the last 3 years. He holds an ACSI multiple subject teacher certification. Peter is thankful to the Lord for his salvation and sees his #1 goal in raising his children as making sure they know Christ for the loving Savior He is. Mr. McKinlay is very excited to help children grow in Christ and become strong young minds.
Mrs. Mitchell started teaching 6th Grade at ECS in 2004. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and an MA in Cross-Cultural Teaching. She has a CA state multiple subject K-8 credential and is working on her single-subject credential in English. Her hope for her students is that they will gain a better understanding of the earth God has created for us. She wants them to know that God loves them and cares for each one equally. She also wants them to discover the talents God has place within each of them and learn how to use those talents for His glory.
Mr. Jim Nelson previously taught Middle School in Poway, California for over 24 years. Prior to this, he taught in Central Queensland, Australia, for ten years, five of which were in public schools and five in a private school. His undergraduate degree and teaching credential were obtained from Humboldt State University. He also has a Master of Science from National University and a Supplementary CA Credential in Mathematics. He is really looking forward to getting to know and working with the wonderful students, staff and parents at ECS. He considers it to be a great honor to work with the people at ECS that possess and share the strong faith and compassion they have as a part of their curriculum on a daily basis. His hobbies include traveling mainly to Hawaii to visit his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren and enjoying the special sights and activities San Diego has to offer. His favorite Bible verse is John 18:36. Mr. Nelson does not have a Homeroom because he offers free math help from 8-8:30 each morning.
Mr. David Hernandez teaches 6th grade history. He is married to Denise, who is a preschool teacher at ECS. They have two boys who attend ECS. David is a historian and entrepreneur. He has founded a handful of corporations that are still operating in the state of California. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Cal State University of San Marcos. David taught Bible for three years at Calvary Chapel as a youth group leader. He has also served at Maranatha Chapel. His passion and desire is to help educate others and encourage them in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.
